We are all missionaries at Pelham Road. We encourage our fellowship to get out
in the community and serve people in the name of Jesus Christ. We enter the
church building for training, study, worship and encouragement. Our real service
is what happens outside the church walls.
Pelham Road has a variety of mission partnerships. We have The
Compassionate Friends, a support group of parents who have lost a child. We
work with prisons by making "kits" filled with needed items for
prisoners. We partner with the Eastside Crisis Center to help the most needy in
our community. At Christmas we partner with a local motel to provide Christmas
presents for the children of their cleaning staff. Pelham Road ministers to
young adults who have dropped out of high school and are often drug or alcohol
addicts. We help them find jobs, housing and counseling. Call
the church to find out about our other missions partners and how you can
help.
We have a strong partnership with SC
Cooperative Baptist Fellowship. We give money and send volunteers to help in
the poorest areas of our state.
Our youth go on a mission tour every summer. They have run children's camps
for Vietnamese refugees in Boston and kids in the poorest communities of the
Appalachian mountains. They have helped build a center for migrant workers and
their children in Florida. In the summer of 2002 they served Native Americans during
the first national Christian Pow-Wow in Colorado.
Each summer our youth volunteer every Tuesday and Wednesday for the following
organizations: The American Leprosy Mission,
Project Host Soup Kitchen, The
Greenville Rescue Mission, Gateway
House, Habitat for Humanity, Project Care,
Stephen's House, the Sterling Hope Center, Greenville
County Parks and Recreation, Connie Maxwell
Children's Home and A Child's Haven.
They worked with Diligent Hands Gracious Hearts,
a ministry providing for shut-ins, doing yard work and odd jobs. They help staff
a week long children's camp on the top of Paris Mountain. Last summer they
provided some 1300 man-hours of volunteer service!
There's no end to the service opportunities in our community. We encourage
you to find a place to serve Christ outside the walls of the church.
"Whatever you do unto the least of these my brethren, you do unto
me." - Jesus Christ.
