Books for the Soul

Stephanie recommends…

  • Olivia by Ian Falconer

Olivia is a terrific little pig with a great personality.  The illustrations in this book are really great!

  • A my name is Alice by Jane Bayer

This is a really creative alphabet book that is a lot of fun to read.  It’s also fun to create your own alphabet rhymes.

  • My Great-Aunt Arizona by Gloria Houston

This story is based on the life of the author’s great-aunt Arizona.  This would be a great gift for a special teacher.  Arizona is a wonderful teacher who inspires generations of students to follow their dreams.

  • Edward and the Pirates by David McPhail

Edward (from Santa’s Book of Names) shares his love of reading with a group of pirates from one of his favorite books.  This is a wonderful story.  Edward shows what reading can truly be – imaginative and fun - for young children.

  • The Polar Express by Chris Van Allsburg

A classic holiday story that is about a train that takes children on a magical adventure – and any book about a train is a good book, according to Drew.

  • Santa’s Book of Names by David McPhail

This was one of my favorite books to share at Christmas with my class.  Edward is a boy who is having trouble learning to read.  You’ll find out how Santa helps him with his problem in this book.
